Canada geese are beautiful from afarโbut when they turn aggressive, overpopulate your property, or leave toxic droppings everywhere, they become a serious problem. At Southern Wildlife Management, our Goose Hazing & Goose Control Programs are built around proven, humane tactics that disrupt nesting, feeding, and roosting behaviorโencouraging nuisance geese to move on for good. Whether youโre dealing with an aggressive flock outside your office, around a warehouse, HOA pond, or large commercial property, we tailor each strategy to your unique situationโoften eliminating long-standing issues that return year after year.
Even without a federal permit for Goose Removal, our strategic hazing methodsโincluding border collie patrols, visual deterrents, and remote-controlled harassment devicesโcan legally and effectively reduce your goose problem. And when limited DNR removal is permitted, we combine targeted removals with ongoing hazing for long-term results. From Alpharetta, Big Canoe, and Ball Ground to Cumming, Dawsonville, Duluth, Gainesville, Johns Creek, Marietta, Milton, Roswell, and Suwanee, our goose deterrent services are trusted across Metro Atlanta for results that last.

Goose Hazing Services
This is a program where we implement a combination of several measures, visual & auditory, to overwhelm the geese and make them feel uncomfortable enough to leave. If every time they return (testing the waters) we have a multitude of measures to harass them they will continue to take off. We implement many HUMANE measures to harass the Geese (all of them) not just one or two. The licensed Wildlife Technician will determine, based upon the specifics of your circumstances, which measures will be most effective considering the time of day, number of visits, and much more. We will create either a one-time program or an annual on-going program which combines many varied measures to prevent the geese from being habituated to the effort.

Canada Goose Removal in Georgia requires a permit from either the USDA or the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Once youโve secured your FREE nuisance goose removal permit, our licensed team can safely and legally capture and remove geese from your property. Depending on the location and behavior of the geese, we may use hand capture techniques or corral them into enclosures for humane removal. Weโll also offer professional recommendations to deter future nesting and reduce the likelihood of repeat problems. Our pricing varies based on factors like capture method, time required, and property accessibility.
The optimal time for Canada Goose removal in Georgia is during their annual molting season, which typically runs from late May through early August. During this window, geese temporarily lose their flight feathers and are unable to flyโmaking safe capture possible. Outside of this period, removal is ineffective and not advised. In most cases, we strongly recommend goose hazing programs instead of physical removal. Even if geese are removed during molting, they may simply return once they regain flight. Hazing offers a more cost-effective and long-term solution.
๐ To get your FREE permit, contact Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources at (770) 918-6404 or (706) 295-6041. Once your permit is approved, give us a call to schedule removal or launch a deterrent plan that works.

๐ฆข Top 15 Goose Control & Goose Removal FAQs (Updated)
Q) Why are geese such a problem in residential neighborhoods?
A) Canada geese are drawn to open lawns, retention ponds, and golf course-style landscaping. Once they settle, they leave behind large amounts of feces, become territorial, and return year after year unless professionally deterred.
Q) Are geese aggressive toward people or pets?
A) Yes. During nesting season, geese can become extremely aggressive, especially when guarding their eggs or goslings. They may hiss, chase, or even charge at people and pets.
Q) How much goose waste can one goose produce?
A) A single goose can defecate up to three pounds per day โ and a flock of geese will rapidly cover yards, patios, walkways, and docks with unsanitary droppings that can spread bacteria and parasites.
Q) Can goose droppings make my yard or pond unsafe?
A) Absolutely. Goose feces contaminates water, kills grass, and can carry E. coli, salmonella, and other harmful pathogens. Itโs not just unsightly โ itโs a legitimate health concern.
Q) Why wonโt the geese just leave on their own?
A) Once a flock nests or starts feeding in an area, theyโre incredibly loyal to that location. Without consistent deterrents, theyโll return year after year, bringing more geese with them.
Q) Are there laws protecting geese in Georgia?
A) Yes. Canada geese are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. You cannot legally disturb nests, eggs, or harm geese without proper licensing. Thatโs why professional goose control companies are required.
Q) Whatโs the most effective way to get rid of geese?
A) Our goose hazing program uses a combination of proven, strategically placed hazing devices and techniques to safely and legally drive geese off your property. When implemented properly, hazing is highly effective.
Q) Do DIY repellents or scare devices work for geese?
A) Most store-bought deterrents provide only short-term results. However, professional-grade hazing measures โ when deployed strategically by trained technicians โ have proven to be an effective long-term solution.
Q) Can you remove or relocate geese legally?
A) Under special permits, licensed companies can perform egg addling, nest removal, or humane harassment, but relocation is often not permitted. We follow all federal and state guidelines for compliance.
Q) What kind of damage can geese cause to my property?
A) In addition to destroying lawns and soiling hard surfaces, geese can clog pond filters, damage landscaped areas, ruin docks, and leave your property looking and smelling terrible.
Q) Are geese dangerous to small children?
A) Geese are not physically strong but can be intimidating and unpredictable. Children may be chased, knocked down, or injured by aggressive goose behavior, especially near nests or goslings.
Q) Why do geese love ponds and retention basins?
A) These calm, open water bodies are ideal for feeding, nesting, and escaping predators. Surrounding manicured lawns give them perfect visibility โ which is exactly what geese want.
Q) How do goose control dogs work?
A) Specially trained herding dogs like Border Collies are used to safely and humanely chase geese off the property. This mimics predator behavior and creates long-term pressure to vacate.
Q) Will geese come back after removal?
A) They often try. Thatโs why ongoing goose hazing and deterrent programs are key to preventing repeat infestations โ especially during nesting and molting seasons.
Q) Do you service private neighborhoods and HOAs for goose control?
A) Yes! We work with golf courses, gated communities, HOAs, commercial campuses, and individual property owners across North Georgia to implement reliable goose management programs.
